The Minidisc was created by Sony in the early 90’s as a new digital format.

I’m a sucker for all the weird audio stuff there is out there and i remember with my first pay check from a weekend job when i was 18/19 was the Sony MZ-R50 in blue. I still have it and it still works well, though the features are limited compared to what ended up being developed in later life! I think I must have paid around £200 for it, though I cant recall the exact figure now.

The next model I bought, the Sony NZ-505 also in blue! I think it was because I didnt know the Orange ones were about! This was such a step up, even though I didnt realise at the time it was a lower end model. I feel like I paid less than £100 for it, but that feels too cheap due to all the features over the original model it has! This one supports MDLP, meaning at LP4 you can get 5hrs of audio on an 80min disc! 5hrs!! when you compare it to cassettes and CD’s, both of which I was still messing about with at the time, it just seemed amazing, still is really I definitely didnt notice much at the time but I was into the early 2000’s ska punk scene where most of the stuff seemed to be on badly recorded cassettes passed around, so i was taking a poor analogue copy and making it a poor digital copy!! :D

Hopefully, when I work out how to manage this site properly I will list all the minidisc models I own, faults and repairs and maybe some cosmetic updates and other such projects.
